How did we took advantage of the lockdown and still managed to meet without any Travel Certificate?
Despite the current pandemic context, with an extraordinary team of students from IC Team (Grande Ecole Student Association) and student representatives from the International MSc and Full Time MBA programs, we were able to keep our flag_event Intercultural Festival (ICF), now in its fifth edition, online on our student platform for well-being Bee Well.
More than a hundred students enjoyed an afternoon or a morning depending on their country, during two days of fun, for one unique online event to celebrate our diversity and to embrace our differences!
A word from the two presidents that made this event happen.
Finally, we decided to be flexible on the schedule and to hold the event on two separate days. Consequently, students and teachers who were tight on schedule were able to join us on any of the dates and did not miss the fun. I find that this year’s intercultural festival was a great opportunity to make new friends and discover various cultures. It felt good to see the fun side of each other and to push each other out of our comfort zone. I’m left with great memories."
The most frustrating part: organizing everything together without ever being able to meet. But the result was worth it. So of course it wasn't always easy, there were obviously some small technical problems, but it was a great success!"
It was very nice to see students from all over the world mobilizing to make this festival unique.

#Iconic_Audencians: Pascale Quester, GE 85, a remarkable rise to the top of the university ranks
Pascale Quester, Grande Ecole 1985, Vice Chancellor of Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, Australia When we enter Pascale Quester’s living room through the lens of her laptop camera, we find her surrounded by boxes. She has just moved from Adelaide in Australia to start a new role as vice-chancellor of the Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne. For whoever is not familiar with the academic hierarchy, that makes her the university’s top boss. But just a few weeks after she accepted the job, the pandemic forced the whole country into lockdown. So today, Pascale finds herself leading an institution whose lecture theatres have become empty, and whose entire curriculum has been moved online. “Dealing with a $50M funding shortfall was definitely not part of the original job specifications! Nor is having to run the university from my computer at home…”, she reveals with a defiant smile. Fortunately for the staff and the 57,000 students, Pascale Quester characteristically refuses to let adversity get her down. Grit is the personality trait she cites to explain her meteoric rise. She was raised in St Nazaire by parents who had not had the opportunity to finish school and who instilled in her the value of resilience. Sheer determination is what helped her graduate from Audencia in the top ranks of the 1985 cohort, all whilst having worked night shifts in an institution for pregnant teenagers. She discovered a passion for marketing and, from then on, climbed the academic ranks in record time, soaring from junior lecturer to professor in the space of 10 years. Despite evolving in an environment not always welcoming for senior professional women, she became the first French female university president of the Australasian region. She has earned a reputation as one of the most respected consumer behaviour researchers in the world. She is one of the top highly-published French researchers in marketing, with three leading textbooks on consumer behaviour on her list of accomplishments. With a staunch belief in the power of education to create social impact, she was awarded the Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite title, in 2012, in recognition of her contribution to higher education in both France and Australia. Pascale Quester shares with us the most memorable milestones of her remarkable career, as well as a few valuable life lessons. #Iconic_Audencians: Francois-Xavier Roger, GE 84, seizing opportunities as they come along
François-Xavier Roger, Grande Ecole 1984, Executive Vice President and CFO of Nestlé A truly international executive, Francois-Xavier Roger has lived on four continents. He learnt the ropes of high finance by joining pharmaceutical company Roussel Uclaf as their controller in 1986. The Frenchman stayed with the group for 14 years, relocating as mergers occurred, and climbing the ladder to a VP Finance role at Aventis International in Tokyo. From 2000 to 2008, he was CFO Asia for Danone, and later the group’s Head of Finance, Treasury and Tax. He then became CFO of Millicom, a global mobile phone operator based in Luxembourg, before taking up the role of CFO at Takeda, Japan’s largest pharmaceutical company. He has demonstrated a stellar professional track record, ascending to his current position as Executive Vice President and CFO of Nestlé, the largest food conglomerate in the world. On paper, this trajectory is the work of a calculating careerist. In reality, Francois-Xavier Roger admits that he did not have any specific outlook or dream until late, nor any ambition to reach a certain leadership level. His approach has always been to seize openings as they presented themselves, in an opportunistic way: “I have tried to constantly remain open, seek challenges, and take risks… which is not always easy, but has paid off for me in the long run”. We chat with a leader who exudes an air of humility and gratitude: “Look at this magnificent view from my office, over Lake Geneva with the Alps in the background!” he beams whilst turning his screen for us. And we discover his unconventional views as to what it takes to be a successful CFO and what ambition should really be about.
