Third annual Influential Leaders Challenge celebrates 29 change-makers and their impact on global issues
Today, AACSB celebrated the positive impact business school graduates are making in communities around the globe as part of the 2018 Influential Leaders Challenge. As an annual initiative, the challenge honours notable alumni from AACSB-accredited schools such as Audencia whose inspiring work serves as a model for the next generation of business leaders.
Audencia’s alumnus Damien Verdier was recognised at AACSB’s 2018 Deans Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, among a group of 29 business pioneers, from 13 industry sectors, whose careers are addressing today’s most pressing social, economic, environmental, and educational challenges.
Damien Verdier (GE 79) serves as Group Chief Strategy, Organization, Development, Research & Innovation Officer with Sodexo and is also president of the International Food Waste Coalition.
“Each honoree from the 2018 class of Influential Leaders reflects the mindset, knowledge, and passion that impactful business leaders must embody to impart positive change in today’s society,” said Thomas R. Robinson, president and CEO of AACSB. “We would like to thank Damien Verdier for demonstrating the true excellence and leadership we wish to see in the world, and we congratulate Audencia Business School for their role in helping to mould a new generation of global business leaders dedicated to driving impact that results in global prosperity.”
Damien Verdier and his peers in the 2018 Influential Leaders class were recognised across three categories, including:
- Alumni Business Leaders Working in Nonprofit or Community-Based Organisations
- Alumni Business Leaders Advancing Diversity and Inclusion
- Business Leaders Influencing Business Education
“I have carried out my professional career with growing responsibilities at both national and international levels.” says Damien Verdier. “I was able to occupy a number of positions, mostly operational, in France up to the position of Chief Executive Officer of Sodexo France. Then, internationally, my positions were more focused on functional areas. In short, all these responsibilities were very diverse and highly enriching. Sodexo has accompanied me on this journey and is fundamentally committed to strong values and mission. It has been part of an incredible story and in the space of 50 years has become the world leader and largest French employer in the World. I'm proud of this recognition from AACSB which echoes Sodexo's values, my values and Audencia's values.”

Avoid burnout & build resilience: join the webinar on 8th February!
Relentless stress at work threatens not only our wellbeing and performance but also our health and career. In this webinar Monique Valcour, management professor and author, presents the current research into the causes of burnout, shows how to judge if we are at risk, and proposes a range of strategies we can use to escape stress triggers at work. The main cause of burnout for most people is a work environment that has become toxic. This does not mean we are powerless to react. In fact a range of strategies can be effective both to deal with peak stress episodes and ongoing chronic work stress. We will explore some of the key approaches that can help, including: Prioritising self care – to replenish physical and emotional energy. Revisiting your assumptions about work – don’t assume everything about your workload and work environment is fixed. We will look at ways to try and change both. Reducing exposure to job stressors – different ways to avoid being “carried along in the current”. Seeking out connections – possibly from coaches and mentors but also from colleagues who may be suffering from the same situational factors We will also discuss when you might need to make more radical changes at work and how as managers and teammates we can work to create less toxic environments. "Find out more about how to identify and avoid burnout", says Shyla du Cosquer, Audencia Careers consultant. "Monique Valcour will show you how to shift your perspective and seek out positive relationships and situations.” Audencia is giving away 200 free tickets for students and alumni Interested? Recruiting the next generation of Audencians - alumni tell their story
Each year the SAI (International Admissions Service) organises the recruitment of future students for the Grande Ecole programme at Audencia, emlyon, ESCP Europe, HEC Paris and SKEMA. The sessions take place in major cities across the globe and the panels are made up of alumni from the five participating schools. Mehdi graduated from the Grande Ecole programme in 2006 and is deputy CEO for Transtour Group in Casablanca Morocco. Maud graduated from SciencesCom in 2000 and has set up her own web communications company in Delhi, India. Both have participated in SAI international recruitment sessions in their home towns. We asked them about their experiences and why they are ready to do it again (and again!) Why did you first decide to participate in the SAI recruitment sessions? Mehdi: It is always nice to keep a close connection with our school, and to connect with the younger generation. We were once in their position! Maud: For me it was an incredibly interesting challenge and totally new experience! What did you get out of it? Mehdi: It made me aware of the aspirations and motivations of this new generation and helped me understand what motivates their choice of school, what drives them to choose a specific direction and, above all, how they anticipate their future. Maud: I thoroughly enjoyed teaming up with Indian alumni who had studied in France. I also discovered that I had the skills to be part of the recruitment panel and definitely had something to offer as a member of the jury. It was a very positive experience to interview talented young Indians with international profiles. What would you say to other alumni to encourage them to join a recruitment panel? Mehdi: Clearly, it is very pleasant and particularly rewarding experience to interview future students/alumni... The context is different as you are interviewing adults who are already active. Maud: It's great to be able to support your country and your school and discover future students with huge potential. If you too are interested in joining an international recruitment panel in a city near you, drop a line to Katie Francois

Reconnecting with the network, sharing experiences, becoming an alumni ambassador
With Audencia Alumni, graduates choose their level of involvement Martin Manecy (MOS 06) had been working in London for nearly 4 years when he decided to reconnect with Audencia’s alumni community. “I saw an afterwork reunion in London on the school’s alumni platform and decided to go along. It was really interesting – about 15 alumni and some staff from Audencia were there and I caught up on news from Nantes”, he says. Following the afterwork in London, Martin connected with Anna Gerke, head of the MS MOS, sport management programme. Their subsequent discussions resulted in Martin returning to Audencia in September for a networking session with current MS MOS students. “I’m a senior Event Manager for Formula-E Operations, an FIA single-seater championship and the world's first fully-electric racing series” he says. “Coming to share my experience and present my company was very enjoyable” says Martin. “Formula-E has evolved from being a start-up to an international automobile championship and a competitor of Formula 1 racing. My professional path has shown me that you can follow your instincts and stick with what you believe will work for you”. The warm welcome from Anna and the MS MOS students convinced Martin to do more within the network. He has since become class ambassador for the 2006 MS MOS cohort and joined in the celebrations for the 25-year anniversary of the programme at the end of November 2017. “The network is what you make of it” says Martin, “the more you put into it, the more you get out of it”.
